Virtual Assistants, Stop Selling What You Do—Sell What They Want!

Writer's picture: Kaelyn MarieKaelyn Marie

Virtual assistants, let’s be real: If your Instagram content isn’t landing you dream clients, it’s probably because you’re leading with what you do instead of what they truly want.

Stop Selling What You Do—Sell What They Want

Here’s the truth:

✨ Your clients aren’t hiring you for an inbox that’s at zero—they’re hiring you because they want peace of mind, more freedom, and the confidence to scale their business without the burnout.

If you want to attract high-paying, luxury clients, here’s how:

1️⃣ Sell the transformation and the experience, not the service. (Think Disney world 🪄)

2️⃣ Speak to their success, not just their struggles. High paying clients don’t always see themselves as struggling. They’re already successful and confident—they want to feel like hiring you is an elevated decision.

3️⃣ Show them why you’re the best—not with buzzwords, but by sharing real proof and client case studies (not just quotes from clients).

Let’s break it down:

Instead of centering your content on services like admin tasks, inbox management, or scheduling, focus on the transformation your services create.

For example:

• What they want: Time freedom, effortless growth, more clients/customers, peace of mind.

• What you provide (but shouldn’t lead with): Inbox at zero, calendar management, or system automation.

Clients don’t wake up thinking, “I need a VA to manage my Asana board.” They wake up overwhelmed, wishing for “a business that runs smoothly while I sleep.” That’s the narrative you need to tap into.

Speak to Their Ego, Not Just Their Pain Points

The VA industry over-focuses on solving pain points (e.g., “You’re overwhelmed and need help!”), but high-caliber clients don’t always see themselves as struggling. They’re already successful and confident—they want to feel like hiring you is an elevated decision.

Try reframing your messaging to mirror their self-perception:

• Instead of: “You’re drowning in admin work.”

• Say: “You deserve a business that matches the level of brilliance you bring to it. Let me handle the details while you focus on the big picture.”

Your Content Should Prove You’re the Solution

Rather than saying you’re detail-oriented or efficient, show it by giving potential clients a taste of your work ethic and expertise:

1. Case Study Posts: Show off a before-and-after of a client transformation (without sharing their private info).

2. Efficiency Tips: Share one small system or tip you’ve implemented for a client that has saved them time.

3. Behind-the-Scenes Glimpses: Document your day in a way that highlights your professionalism, organization, and commitment to your clients.

Use “Future Pacing” in Your Captions

Future pacing is a sales psychology tool that paints a vivid picture of what life could look like after working with you.

• For example: “Imagine opening your laptop to find your inbox already organized, meetings scheduled without a second thought, and the freedom to actually spend your mornings being creative again. That’s what I do for my clients.”

Create Content That Attracts Luxury Clients

Most VAs are stuck creating beginner-level content (e.g., “What’s a VA and why you need one”), which attracts clients new to outsourcing. High-paying, dream clients already know they need help. They want someone to position themselves as the expert.

Instead, focus on content that says, “Here’s why I’m the BEST choice.” Examples:

• “Why successful entrepreneurs trust me to manage their businesses behind the scenes.”

• “How I helped a 6-figure business owner save 15 hours a week in just 30 days.”

Your messaging has the power to change everything and start landing you clients who will happily invest $1500+/month for what you bring to the table.

Lead with confidence, clarity, and strategy, and watch how quickly your dream clients slide into your DMs. 💥
