What I Wish I Had When I Started as a Virtual Assistant

If you’re just getting started as a virtual assistant and feel like you're piecing everything together on your own...I’ve been there.
When I started, I had no clue what tools I needed, how to onboard a client, or how to keep everything organized behind the scenes. I wasted so much time Googling contract templates, creating systems from scratch, and second-guessing if I was doing it “right.”
Looking back, there are a few things I really wish I had — and today, I’m sharing them with you so you don’t have to make the same mistakes I did.
1. Clear Systems to Stay Organized
One of the hardest parts of starting your VA business is staying organized while managing multiple clients, platforms, and deadlines. I was jumping between spreadsheets, random Google Docs, and sticky notes (yikes).
What I wish I had: A ready-made client tracker, onboarding checklist, and project planner to keep everything streamlined and make me look like I had it all together.
2. Templates I Didn’t Have to Write from Scratch
Client proposals. Service guides. Contracts. Invoices. Welcome emails.
I had no idea where to start with any of it so I spent hours writing and rewriting everything on my own. It felt so overwhelming.
What I wish I had: Professional-looking templates that were already written and designed — ones I could plug my info into and send confidently.
3. A Toolkit That Made Me Feel Legit
As a new VA, I constantly questioned whether I looked “professional enough.” I didn’t know how to present my services, onboard clients smoothly, or keep everything running behind the scenes.
What I wish I had: A comprehensive toolkit that helped me show up like a pro — even if I was just getting started.
The Good News? You Don’t Have to Start From Scratch
If you’re nodding along to all of this, let me save you the stress I went through.
That’s exactly why we created the VA Essentials Toolkit — to give you everything I wish I had when I was starting out.
Inside, you'll get:
Done-for-you templates (contracts, service guides, email scripts, client forms)
Plug-and-play systems to organize your clients and projects
Tools to help you look polished and professional from day one
Confidence to onboard clients with ease
Whether you’re just starting or need to clean up the backend of your biz, this toolkit was made for you.
You don’t have to DIY everything. Let this toolkit do the heavy lifting so you can focus on growing your business.
